In
sharp contrast to the relatively steady, positive growth of
the industry at the national level, the post-Independence
development of the Ahmedabad industry shows a different picture.
Whereas the number of spindles and workers may have seen a
net increase (post-81 there is a great dip in employment),
the number of mills and looms has actually
decreased.
