AMOA became ATMA on January 01, 1980. The name Ahmedabad Mill
Owners’ Association was changed to Ahmedabad
Textile Mills’ Association through a unanimous
decision by the erstwhile members. They wished to replace
the older, anachronistic term ‘mill owners’ with a newer,
modern term. Also, they wished to reflect the move from family-managed
business to professionally managed textile mills, implying
that membership to ATMA was open to mills falling in the latter
category, also.
